Big News: Bound For Glory No Longer Competing With UFC 254

UFC President Dana White confirmed this morning that UFC 254 featuring a lightweight championship fight between Daegastan Megastar Khabib Nurmagomedov and USA’s Justin Gaethje will take place in a European-friendly timeslot and airing in the early afternoon in the US. meaning the UFC PPV, which will likely do in and around 1 million buys and would greatly cut in to Impacts PPV buys, will no longer be going head to head. Khabib is a huge draw and this will be a very big fight. Unfortunately for Impact, just going on the same day as UFC will likely hurt, as cross-over fans with a limited budget will have to choose between the two.

Impact TV Review for Sept 8, 2020

Another solid episode of Impact this week. Last night’s episode was definitely more my style. Wrestlehouse is finally over and we are starting to see the seeds being planted for Bound For Glory.

Eric Young is a Star

The Opening Segment saw new Impact World Champion Eric Young come to the ring bosting about winning the title and being a maniac. Eric is so great and did an awesome job with his promo to kick off the show. Alisha Edwards is hands down the worst actress in the history of TV, but even her part in the promo was decent. I really did want to see EY give her the piledriver but unfortunately Tommy Dreamer showed up out of nowhere and booked himself in another main event that we all knew he would lose.

The Main Event was a typical plunder fest that ended exactly how it should have, but the real story came when Rich Swann saved ole Dreamer from a beatdown aft the bell. EY and Swann will undoubtedly have a match at BFG, but whether or not its for the world title remains to be seen.

The Motor City Machine Guns Have Never Been Better. The guys looked amazing last night. I really hope that Impact signs these guys up long term and they have a long run with the titles. The Rascalz have been on fire lately too and last nights matchup was awesome. Nice touch at the end with The North, Ace/Fulton, and The Good Brothers getting involved. Downside is we all know they will all get thrown into a match at BFG instead of determining a proper number 1 contender. Its basically Oprah booking.

What Happened To Sami Callihan? Ever since he has turned babyface, he has been FLAT. I have ZERO interest in the feud with Katie Forbes. The initial “ICU” story was interesting but since the reveal its been dead. What does ICU even mean? Is Sami a comedy hacker now? Hope they do something to turn things around for him after BFG.

Caleb Konley who has been in Impact before and recently had been appearing as Suicide debuted as Tenille Dashwood’s photographer “Kaleb With a K”.  The character instantlyhas major heat with me, and that’s a good thing. I’ll be interested in seeing where this goes. Also interested in who will be the new Suicide, or if Impact will even keep the character going forward. It was cool to see the costume make its return but honestly they turned it in to a jobber. Hopefully they can sign one of the many young and exciting high flyers they recently brought in and give the character a new coat of paint.

Rohit Raju is GREAT. The TJP vs Chris Bey match was good, although the entire time it kind of seemed like they were dancing as opposed to fighting. But Raju once again stole the show with his taunts and ridiculous clothes at ringside. TJP won but I think we are heading to another 3-Way. Whatever they do I hope Rohit keeps the title for awhile.

Brian Myers looked a lot better this week and had much more fire. While Willie Mack losing AGAIN is concerning, Myers really stepped his game up this week.

Did anyone miss WrestleHouse this week? I didn’t. I do feel like they missed out on following up with XXXL and the Deaners this week, as they added new layers to their characters and came off the show much more interesting than they went in.

The Moose-EC3 Story progression was a miss for me this week. It came off as hokey and these two have been great in serious segments. While I don’t know this for sure, Moose appears to be heading to Baltimore to track down EC3. If that’s the case we could see an Impact-ROH crossover which I think would be great for both companies. They should work together more often, only helps out both parties.

Taya vs Tasha was what it was. Interesting that Taya is winning matches again considering her contract is “reportedly” coming to an end this year. I sure hope Impact is able to lock her in. The whole story here is the friction between Bravo-Taya-Rosemary.

IMPACT News and Notes:

In an interview with Fightful New Impact Champion Eric Young states that Vince McMahon not using him is one of his biggest mistakes.

Heath tells Scott Fishman of TV Insider  that recently released talent have been contacting him about Impact “They know when they are locked down under contract, they can’t get out. That’s the bottom line. You may have well signed yourself up for the military. But guys that did get released and guys from other companies have been texting and calling and asking about Impact. The WWE crew, some of them have been like, ‘Man, that would be awesome to do this, But I still got a year-and-a-half or another year.’ I’m like, ‘Remember what you’re saying because years go by pretty fast. So if you really want to, I might know a guy.’ The interest is there for sure.” (transcribed by Fightful)

Former Impact Wrestling World Champion and Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard returns to the ring this Saturday 9/12 for Warrior Wrestling on FITE for the first time since the pandemic began. This also marks her first public appearance since being stripped of the Impact title and released after failing to come to terms on a new contract. She will face Impact’s Kylie Rae in the main event. Tessa generated a lot of buzz and I assumed she would have been picked up by a major company by now, especially AEW, considering shes one of the best in the world. Unfortunately for her she has burned a lot bridges and has a bad reputation. Honestly, I hope she comes back to Impact (I know, short memory) and feuds with Deonna Purazzo. Time and money heals all wounds.
