The Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr exhibition bout ended in a “draw” after 8 rounds of action. Technically there was no winner or loser but the WBC assigned former champions Vinny Paz, Bad Chad Dawson, and Christy Martin to score the fight. Christy Martin scored the fight for Tyson, Dawson had a draw and Paz scored it for Jones.
Honestly those scores were probably assigned before the fight began. Jones Jr was gassed in the first round and had nothing for Tyson. It really felt like Tyson could have ended the fight whenever he wanted. His was crisp, had plenty of power, and his head movement/defense was excellent. He couldn’t fight any real modern fighters but he will look great doing some over 50 fights with boxing legends. Tyson did confirm that he will be competing again
Mike’s Take: This was so freaking fun to watch. Tyson loomed great and watching him brought me back to childhood. We have to do the Holyfield fight now? I mean come on. Gimme 8 2-minute rounds with those two with KO’s and knockdowns being legal. Id also like to see Roy Jones vs Anderson Silva cause why the hell not. We are living in a rime warp anyway.
In the co-main event Jake Paul knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson in the second round with a vicious overhand right. Nate was very aggressive but lacked any skill or defense and pretty much left his face wide open for abuse. Paul scored three knockdowns. After the fight, Paul challenged Conor McGregor, Dilon Danis and some nerd named KSI. Paul improved to 2-0.
Badou Jack dominated an overmatched Blake McKernan by a unanimous decision. Jack was several levels above McKernan.
Jamaine Ortiz scored a 7th rd TKO over Sulaiman Segawa.
