5 Takeaways From the January 12th Episode of IMPACT!

Tonights Episode of IMPACT is the final show before Hard To Kill and IMPACT put a lot into making this episode a special night before the highly anticipated ppv happening this Saturday. With tonights episode, I will touch on the 5 things learned.

5. OVERBOOKING IS A CONSTANT ISSUE

IMPACT had 3 out of 5 matches tonight that had some degree of overbooking. Taya as. number one contender to the knockouts championship had no business of losing to Kimberlee, a match that featured interference from Susan. Personally, Taya should have won that match and then a beatdown could’ve happened with Deonna, Susan and Kimberlee on Taya and Rosemary. The Deaner vs Dreamer, Rosemary vs Tenille were matches that were gravely overbooked; a situation we hope IMPACT rectifies in 2021.

4. ETHAN PAGE VS KARATE MAN SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON PPV

Its no secret Ethan Page’s contract with IMPACT has officially ended. However, he was part of the November tapings that is built all the way at Hard To Kill. He taped a cinematic video during those tapings which will take place at the event, in a move that feels almost indy like for IMPACT. Ethan Page is no longer a contracted wrestler and it makes no sense why he should be featured on a PPV program, where more prominent contracted IMPACT stars are now booked. The Karate man gimmick is not really appealing and all it has done was taking opportunities away from current IMPACT talents that showed be featured more on ppv events.

3. WRESTLE WEEK IS A GOOD CONCEPT FROM IMPACT

IMPACT took a massive step by applying a new level of relevance to their PPV events. New perks like Wrestle Week which involves a week long catalog of shows and events featuring the Hard To Kill live show, Bound For Glory ppv showcase and a show featuring the Good Brothers adds to the image and presentation of Hard To Kill.

2. EXPECT A BIG ARRIVAL AT HARD TO KILL

With Shamrock returning last week, you can expect to see him at the ppv this Saturday aiding Callihan in his quest to beat Eddie Edwards. While a post match beatdown may occur from Shamrock and Callihan, expect a debut or a return to take place at the event. Names like Kurt Angle, James Storm, Bully Ray etc can make their IMPACT return at this event to counter the threat of Sami Callihan and Ken Shamrock.

  1. TIME TO INTRODUCE SOME CROWD NOISE

IMPACT has utilized the Skyway Studios for the empty arena wrestling for over 10 months. While the COVID era affected the overall quality and standings of the promotion; IMPACT continued to remain operational and provide quality content for its fans; all without crowd noise. Crowd noise is an important piece in wrestling, as it adds a new element of exhilaration to a match that is underway. Current wrestling promotions such as WWE, AEW and NJPW understand the vitality of including crowd noise, virtual fans or live fans in attendance as it is a key factor in matches. Even MLW had to include some crowd noise during their tapings to help keep the product fresh. IMPACT continues to get stale with every passing episode without matches, and with Hard To Kill on the horizon, this Saturday would be the perfect event to have crowd noise available at the PPV. It will add a whole new dimension to the ppv this Saturday.
